Herbsaint

Herbsaint is a brand of anise-flavored liqueur created in New Orleans in 1934. It was marketed as a substitute for Absinthe which was banned at the time in the United States. It has a black licorice flavor with notes of fennel and mint. It’s currently produced by the Sazerac Company and is bottled at 50% ABV. Absinthe, Pernod or other anise-flavored liqueurs are often used as substitutes.
