Royal Hawaiian Mai Tai
I suppose this is the original Mai Tai variation, created by Trader Vic for the Surf Bar of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, Waikiki Beach in 1971.
I get an immediate negative reaction to any Mai Tai that has pineapple juice in it. I just can’t help my automatic scoffing. Having said that, I know this drink has its own history to it.
The orange and pineapple juices are the most prominent with the rums, orgeat and curaçao hiding in the mix.
For me, there are far too many ingredients with far too little return. This “Island Mai Tai” isn’t for me.
