It seems like this cocktail’s earliest appearance in print was in 1951’s Bottom’s Up! cocktail manual by Ted Saucier. He attributes it being invented 30 years earlier by Frank Fogarty, a vaudeville performer.
This is an elegant build with four ingredients of equal volume perfectly balancing to create a complex final flavor combination.
