Twelve Mile Limit
During Prohibition, one had to travel offshore to drink alcohol legally. The limit was originally set at three miles which spurred the creation of a cocktail named the Three Mile Limit.
After the government warned that the restriction would increase to twelve miles, this much stronger version came to be.
Author Ted Haigh in his book, Vintage Spirits and Forgotten Cocktails, credits this Prohibition-era classic to a war correspondent and journalist named Tommy Millard.
