The Expedition

Martin Cate of Smuggler’s Cove, San Francisco, looked at the famous Black Magic coffee and citrus tiki cocktail as inspiration here with a nod to Donn Beach, aka, Don the Beachcomber. Recognizing Donn’s New Orleans roots, the Cove uses Bittermens New Orleans coffee liqueur to pair with the bourbon and rum split base. This perfectly rich coffee and caramel masterpiece is prominently featured on the cover of the must-have Exotic Cocktails, Rum, and the Cult of Tiki book. It deserves its spot there.

Instructions

Add everything to tin. Flash blend or shake with crushed ice. Pour into a chilled glass or tiki mug. Top with fresh crushed ice. Garnish with an edible orchid.
