That’s Not a Mai Tai

A lot of people drink cocktails that resemble this one and are told that they’re Mai Tais. Nope. That’s wrong. Mai Tais don’t have pineapple juice, amaretto, grenadine or floats of dark rum. They aren’t served in a hurricane glass and aren’t garnished with pineapple or cherries. The name Mai Tai is an established cocktail invented by Trader Vic in 1944. It is not a catch-all term for any random tropical cocktail. Tasty, sure, but its not a Mai Tai.
