Wicked Kiss
A riff of the nineteenth-century cocktail named the Widow’s Kiss, this variation has a split base of rye and apple brandy instead of the original’s single base spirit of calvados.
It’s unusual to find classic cocktails with a split base, although there are a few of them.
Modern bartenders like the exceptionally talented Phil Ward of Death & Co. fame have brought many neo-classics into the fold that use a blended spirit base to good effect. Here it creates a sweet and spicy base for everything else to reside.
